Ingredients

  • Tteokbokki Rice Cakes: 290g (Korean rice cakes)
  • Sugar: 3 tablespoons
  • Tomato Sauce (Ketchup): 2 tablespoons
  • Gochujang (Korean Red Chili Paste): 1 teaspoon
  • Soy Sauce: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water: 50 ml
  • Cooking Oil: As needed
  • Almond Powder: For garnish
  • Cornstarch Powder: For coating
  • Wooden Skewers
  • (1 tablespoon = 15 ml)

Directions

  1. Boil the Tteokbokki rice cakes in a little water until soft. Drain and soak them in cold water briefly, then drain again. Place five rice cakes onto each wooden skewer.

  2. Lightly dust the skewered rice cakes with cornstarch powder to ensure even frying.

  3. In a pan, combine sugar, tomato sauce, gochujang, soy sauce, and water. Mix well and simmer over low heat for 1 minute.

  4. Heat enough oil in a pan and fry the rice cake skewers for about 1 minute until crispy.

  5. Dip the fried rice cake skewers into the prepared sauce, ensuring an even coating. Sprinkle almond powder generously over the skewers for a nutty crunch.

  6. Serve warm as a delicious snack or appetizer.
