Directions
1. Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, mix 140ml water, sugar, salt, baking powder, and egg. Add flour and melted butter. Knead using your hands or a spatula. Add a little extra water if needed — the dough should be soft but not sticky. Cover and rest for 20 minutes at room temperature.
2. Shape the cookies
Divide the dough into two parts. Roll each part thin (about 1mm thick). Trim edges and cut into 10x10cm squares. Fold each square in half. Make several cuts 3–5mm apart, not all the way through. Wet the edge with water, fold, and press to seal. Twist by pulling one end through the center cut. Seal the ends and gently stretch to shape.
3. Fry and glaze
Heat oil over medium heat and fry cookies until golden and crispy. Let cool. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, honey, and water for the syrup. Bring to a boil, then turn off heat once sugar dissolves. Let cool. Drizzle or dip cookies in syrup. (Optional, but adds a beautiful glaze and taste!)
