Ingredients

  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 1 tsp dry yeast (7 g)
  • 1 egg
  • 50 g sugar
  • Orange peel (zest of one orange)
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 60 ml vegetable oil
  • Seed oil or any neutral oil for frying
  • Custard or jam
  • Sugar (for coating)

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine 50 g sugar with orange peel to infuse the citrus flavor. Add dry yeast, warm milk, egg, vegetable oil, all-purpose flour, and salt. Mix all the ingredients until a smooth dough forms.

  2. Cover the dough with a cloth and plastic wrap. Let it rest for 1 hour until it doubles in size. After rising, shape the dough into a ball and roll it out gently. Use a small round cutter or sieve to cut out pieces of dough. Place the cut pieces on a tray, cover them with a cloth, and let them rest for another 20 minutes.

  3. Heat a pan with a small amount of oil over low heat. Fry the doughnuts on both sides until golden brown and cooked through. Remove them from the oil and let them drain on paper towels.

  4. Using a piping bag, fill the fried doughnuts with custard or jam. Roll the filled doughnuts in sugar to coat them evenly.
