- 1 cup (250 ml) milk
- 1 cup (250 ml) oil
- 1 cup (250 ml) yogurt
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) vanilla extract
- ½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 400 g coarse semolina
- 1 cup (80 g) shredded coconut
- 1 tbsp (10 g) baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 2 cups (400 g) sugar
- 2½ cups water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice

Directions
1. Step
Grease a baking tray with 1 tbsp ghee or butter. Pour the basbousa mixture into the tray and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Preheat your oven to 450°F (250°C). Bake for 20 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, turn on the broiler to brown the top.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, vanilla, and lemon juice. Stir and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove the basbousa from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it while it’s still hot. Cover the tray and let it rest for 3-4 hours.
