Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt. Heat gently while stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until smooth. Gradually pour in the warm sugar-milk mixture while stirring. Add the egg and mix well. Sift in the baking powder and flour. Mix until a dough forms. If needed, add more flour to achieve a soft, non-sticky consistency.
Knead briefly, cover, and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.

  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F). Roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of 0.8-1 cm. Using a 9 cm round cutter, cut out circles. Cut each circle in half to create semi-circles. Arrange them on a lined baking sheet.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolk, cocoa powder, and 2 tsp milk until smooth. Brush the mixture over the cookies. Using a knife or toothpick, create decorative fan-like patterns by drawing lines from the curved edge outward.

  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Let them cool completely before serving.
