Directions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, dry yeast, orange zest, egg, and slightly warm milk. Mix well until the ingredients form a dough. Place the dough in a greased bowl, lightly coat it with oil, and cover it with plastic wrap and a cloth. Let it rest until it doubles in size.
-
Divide the dough into six equal parts and shape each piece into a round ball. In a separate bowl, mix the custard with the chocolate chips. Take each dough ball, flatten it slightly, and fill it with the custard-chocolate chip mixture. Seal the edges and reshape into a ball. For decoration, design the top of the dough by scoring or shaping as desired. Cover the prepared dough balls with a cloth and let them rest for about 20 minutes.
-
Brush the tops of the dough balls with egg yolk. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Once baked, sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
