About Us

Who We Are

Home cooks are our heroes—it's as simple as that. Foody Making is a community built by and for kitchen experts: the cooks who dedicate their weekend to perfecting a beef bourguignon but also love the simplicity of a slow-cooker rendition. The bakers who labor over a showstopping 9-layer cake but are just as happy to doctor boxed brownies for a decadent weeknight dessert. The entertainers who want a solid snack spread without tons of dirty dishes at the end of the night.

Most importantly, Foody Making connects home cooks with their greatest sources of inspiration—other home cooks. We're the world's leading digital food brand, and that drives us to do everything possible to keep our community connected. 600k home cooks deserve nothing less.

Community Guidelines

We carefully moderate every review and photograph added to a recipe. When leaving reviews, we ask that you remember a fellow Foody Making community member has shared their recipe with you. Constructive feedback is always encouraged, but rude, mean-spirited, disrespectful, or spammy comments are not welcome and will not be approved.

Recipe Approval and Testing

  • Kitchen-Approved Recipes

  • When Foody Making readers add a recipe to the site, they can choose to save it as private, share it on their profile page, or submit it for Kitchen Approved consideration. Recipes submitted for this designation are evaluated by our team of recipe editors, who ensure the originality and reliability of each recipe while editing for Foody Making's style. Each recipe undergoes a thorough review process that evaluates:
  • Duplication: Editors verify that the recipe doesn't duplicate another already published.
  • Completion: The ingredient list is reviewed to ensure it is complete, measurements are correct, and ingredients are ordered and grouped according to their use.
  • Accuracy: Serving sizes and yields are checked for accuracy and to ensure recipes align with USDA dietary recommendations.
  • Replication: Recipes are reviewed and edited to confirm they are replicable when following the instructions. Editors assess techniques, equipment, and appliances used, explaining intermediate or advanced techniques with clear language and visuals.
  • Health Claims: Editors evaluate any health or nutrition claims — such as healthy, low-carb, low-fat, or paleo — based on guidelines from dieticians at our sister brand, Eating Well.

Once recipes are evaluated and edited, they are not only reliable but also compatible with our nutrition analysis, scaling, shopping list, and other recipe tools. Only the best recipes achieve Kitchen Approved status and are published and promoted.

After publication, the Foody Making audience can add their own photos, ratings, and reviews to recipes. In these reviews, users share tips for improving recipes, adjusting them to personal tastes or diets, and more.

Foody Making Magazine Recipe Testing

  • Recipes selected for publication in Foody Making Magazine undergo even greater scrutiny and testing. Each recipe is tested one to four times in our professional test kitchens to ensure perfection.
  • Trained test kitchen professionals prepare every recipe, then taste and evaluate it with recipe and story editors. This process confirms and clarifies all key components, including:
  • Ingredient types and amounts
  • Cooking procedures, times, and temperatures
  • Yields

Changes are incorporated as needed to enhance flavor, ease, and visual appeal.

For recipes with significant user feedback, editors and testers evaluate and incorporate community suggestions. Fully tested and edited recipes are then prepared by a food stylist for professional photography and reviewed again by a registered dietitian. Nutrition and health-related tags such as Healthy Pick, Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free are applied.

Diversity and Inclusion

Foody Making is and always has been a community built around love. We are people who love food, love to cook, and love to share recipes and stories. There is no room for hate, racism, or inequality in our community. The 600k cooks who make up the Foody Making audience are extraordinarily diverse, and we strive to celebrate the home cooks who bring Foody Making to life, showcasing them across our digital platforms and in the pages of Foody Making Magazine.

We are committed to ensuring that our contributors, featured cooks, recipes, and stories reflect the diversity of the Foody Making community—and we recognize there is still much work to do.

Our efforts include highlighting the stories and traditions of our diverse audience. By 2024, we began reviewing and editing 10% of our most-visited content to identify and remove any bias in language or instances of cultural appropriation. This includes ensuring respectful language around race, gender, sexual orientation, and addressing glamorized colonialism.

We are also focused on recruiting more diverse voices and contributors for our team, freelance pool, and Foody Making Allstars brand ambassador program. We are actively working to ensure that our video and voice programming represents the same diversity as our audience.

Our dedication extends to collaborating with recipe developers, food writers, editors, food stylists, photographers, videographers, podcasters, illustrators, and models who embody the strength and diversity of our vibrant community.

Editorial Guidelines

At Foody Making, we take great pride in the quality of our content. Our writers, photographers, and editors create original, accurate, and engaging material that reflects the interests and needs of home cooks. Our recipe editors carefully verify all user submissions before publication to ensure quality and reliability.

Original illustrations, graphics, images, and videos are created by internal teams in collaboration with experts in their fields. These assets represent diverse voices, perspectives, and contexts. We ensure that photos and videos are not edited in any way that may cause them to be false or misleading.

We correct factual errors in a transparent manner and strive to make it easy for our readers to report any inaccuracies.

At Foody Making, we aspire to provide the highest-quality content created by humans, for humans. Publishing automatically generated content using AI writing tools, such as ChatGPT, is against our editorial guidelines.
